EP20: How to Be a Leader and Have a Life

“When we don’t have boundaries, when we don’t set them, people don’t know how to respect them.” – NiCole

Is it possible to be a leader in your network marketing industry and still have a life? Our heart can say yes, while our mind is wondering, “How?!” Many of us were drawn to entrepreneurship with a desire to gain freedom and a flexible schedule. However, if you are like us, it can be easy to feel tied to our phone with more messages than time to send replies. If you feel bombarded with “buggy” downline marketers who continue to ask you the same questions over and over, it may be time to make some changes.

“Don’t be the leader preaching time freedom, when you secretly don’t have any yourself. When you don’t have the boundaries you’re teaching, watch imposter syndrome take over your life.” – NiCole

If you are feeling the overwhelm of a never ending to-do list, the first place to start is probably with effective boundary setting. When we’re growing a business, we can be so excited to help others that we want to be available at all hours to help our downline. It’s important to remember that you are not the savior. You are not going to make anyone’s dreams come true in the span of one text answered at 9:30 pm. Your opportunity as an upline is to empower those under you to run their own business! You’re not going to have the time to grow your business organically if you are focused on managing the team you already have.

“It’s way more important in the long run to feel important and needed by your children than by your downline.” – Brooke

This week, find one area of your life that you can either automate or delegate. It could be something practical, like finding a grocery service, or business related, like creating new consultant training videos. If you’re feeling stuck, and would like some help scheduling your day, gain free access to Brooke’s time-blocking system by visiting socialtenacity.com/planningguide.

In the midst of working towards efficiency and effective boundaries, spend some intentional time with your family this week. Take an hour or two, shut off your phone, and play with your kids or spend time with your husband. There are no emergencies in network marketing, your clients and downline can wait.

EP19: Knowing When to Quit

“When you are aligned with what you’re meant to do, and you can utilize your uniqueness and share it with others, that’s when you become successful. When you’re doing something that isn’t aligned with your passion you burn out easy.” – Brooke

Let’s face it, network marketing is hard. Being an entrepreneur can be really hard. So, how do we know when we need to persevere and push through, or call it quits? Is it burnout, or are we trying to fit into a role that wasn’t meant to be ours? If you feel like the magic is gone, it may be time to start asking yourself the tough questions. Doing it now could save you from extreme burnout down the road. Learn how to align your business with your purpose, and be inspired to work, instead of dreading the next phone call or sales party.

“You have to love the result, and you have to love helping people with the problem that it solves.” – NiCole

When identifying whether you are facing the normal challenges of business, or something more substantial, it is important to identify whether or not the business you are part of aligns with your purpose and passion. It isn’t enough to love the product you are selling. It is important that selling the produce fulfills the purpose or need that defines your individual movement. For example, selling a product like Scentsy may seem trivial, on the surface it doesn’t seem like it would change someone’s life forever. However, if you find purpose and passion in cultivating families, selling a product that creates a more appealing home environment could give you that fulfillment.

One way to tell if you aren’t aligned with your business, is if it is difficult for you to create organic content that doesn’t feel “spammy.” If this feels impossible for you, if every post feels inauthentic then you are probably not aligned with the right company. Often, spammy posts happen because our only inspiration for copy comes from copying someone else. When you’re aligned with your purpose, content will come naturally. Do you feel resistance every time you post?

“Quitting because of resistance is different than knowing when to quit, and quitting when it’s the right time so you can make a switch to something that is in line with your purpose.” – NiCole

If you think that you might be in your business for the wrong reasons, take some time this week to ask yourself the hard questions. Is your motivation impact or income? Reach out to some trusted individuals who will give you an objective assessment.

Calling it quits doesn’t make you a quitter. Don’t waste another day aligning yourself with a company that doesn’t align with your purpose. Increase will follow your pursuit of impact.

EP18: The Power of Idea Diversity

“It’s hard to get diversity in your ideas when they’re all coming from you, all the time. Great things don’t happen in a vacuum.” -NiCole

What if we told you that market saturation is a myth? I know it may be hard to believe when it feels that every mompreneur you know is also involved in network marketing. The secret to successful networking doesn’t lie in the unique nature of your product, but in the innovative strategy of your marketing. This week on the Authentic Influencer Podcast, we’re talking about how to stand out, make a difference, and utilize ideas that surround you everyday to embrace your movement in a fresh way.

“When a company has a new strategy or training, it has to apply to 90% of the people, otherwise it won’t work. Even when they come up with something new, it’s going to be generic, and won’t apply to everyone.” – NiCole

The book Great By Choice written by Jim Collins discusses the strategies implemented by the founder of FedEx, Fred Smith. Smith studied the operating methods of military boot camps, and their centralized locations for training, and applied these principles to the delivery of packages. When applying effective concepts to an entirely different industry, the strategy became revolutionary! You have the power to do the same within your own business. To stand out in the market, begin to study practices of successful companies in tangential, or even completely different industries. This could be exactly what you need to stand out in a “saturated” market.

“No market is saturated. It only becomes saturated with the same people doing the same thing. ” – Brooke

Another great way to become more diverse in your business is to find the support of other entrepreneurs and network marketers. Join the Authentic Influencer Marketing Facebook group to surround yourself with other women who desire to present a unique business strategy in the midst of the growing sea of network marketers. Great products and long-term sustainable business models are developed within the context of community. Gaining feedback, and giving space to hone your idea and make adjustments, could give you the necessary edge for success.

EP16: Sell Yourself, Not Other People’s Stuff

“When you integrate your product into your life, it’s seamless. But if you look like you drank the Kool-aid no one is going to listen to you, because people are going to think that everytime you talk you are looking through the lens of your company.”

This week on the Authentic Influencer Podcast we’re talking about building a brand around yourself. So often, we can find ourselves constantly elevating a product, in an attempt to make more sales. People want to trust that you have their best interest in mind. You are partnering with them to create a better life, not just monetizing their real needs. When we help others find solutions, even if it isn’t our product, we are more likely to gain a following of people who will be ready to listen when our product is actually the best fit. When we are in this position, the products become secondary.

“Find the thing that is truly you, and then integrate the product or opportunity into your life. People want to see you, not a product.”

If the company you are selling for doesn’t align with your passion, it might be time to find a different company. We have gotten on the phone for so many consultations with people who realize that the problem with their business isn’t that they aren’t good at selling, but that they are attempting to sell the wrong thing! Does the company you sell for promote the lifestyle, values, priorities, passion that you uphold in your personal life?

“It’s important to create a brand around yourself because once you do that, it becomes an asset. It becomes something that you have, that you can take with you.”

Our first challenge for you this week is to do an audit of your last 10 posts on Facebook. Were you selling yourself or your product? Take some time to practice reframing those posts. How could you post in a way that will position you as an expert, instead of just pushing a product?

Find one influencer in your circle that consistently causes you wonder, “Where did she get that?” The people who do the best at selling their products aren’t constantly pushing you towards the product. They draw you in, and build trust with you.

Listen in to learn more about building your brand, gaining the trust of others, and selling yourself!
